SBI Clerk (Junior Associate) Salary 2025 Pay Scale Promotion & Increment

State Bank of India (SBI) has released notification for 5180 Junior Associate Posts of Clerical cadre that are to be filled this year. Eligible graduate candidates have to appear for Preliminary and Main exams followed by language test to get selection to these posts. After all stages of recruitment, candidate will be getting salary (total) as mentioned on this page. 

SBI Clerk Starting Basic pay

When a new candidate is appointed on Junior Associate (CSS) in Clerical cadre, then his / her starting basic pay is Rs. 26730 per month. It comprise of standard Rs. 24050 plus two advance increments that are for graduate candidates. Allowances are to be added in this basic pay to make full total salary that is to be given to employee.

SBI Clerk Pay Scale

The pay scale of Clerk in SBI is Rs. 24050-1340/3-28070-1650/3-33020-2000/4-41020-2340/7-57400-4400/1-61800-2680/1-64480. It shows salary progression over time as given below.

SBI Clerk Salary yearly increment:

  • For first 3 years, there will be Rs. 1340 increment every year till Basic reaches ₹28,070.  Then increment increase to Rs. 1650 yearly for next 3 years till basic reach 33020. Then increment of 2000 for next 4 years till basic becomes 41020. This continues as per pay scale shown above till basic pay reaches Rs. 64,480.

SBI Clerk Salary 2025 (Total and In-Hand)

Total monthly salary of Clerk in SBI is approximately ₹46000 monthly for candidate posted in a metro city. After applicable deductions like contributions to NPS, taxes, etc. net in-hand salary is typically around ₹39500 to ₹39600 per month. Total Salary is sum of basic pay + allowances such as DA, HRA, TA, Special Allowance, etc..

Probation / Training Period

New employees have to complete Probation period or training of minimum ~6 months during which they have to complete 15 e-lessons as prescribed by SBI, for getting confirmed on the post.

SBI offers structured promotions within the clerical cadre based on tenure:

Promotions:
  • Assistant gets to Senior Assistant after 10 years of service and to Special Assistant after 20 years and SSA in 30 years with allowances as shown in above table.
  • Assistant becomes eligible for Trainee Officer (TO) after 3 years of service if he / she clears JAIIB & CAIIB exams from IIBF, plus an internal written test and interview.
  • Successful completion of a 2-year probation on TO post, candidate may be placed in Middle Management Grade Scale-II (MMGS-II) depending on interview and confirmatory test failing which they will stay on clerical cadre.
  • It requires 12 years of service through normal track and 6 years on fast track on Assistant post and follow similar testing and interview process. It leads to officer role, generally Scale-I / Junior Manager Grade Scale (JMGS-I).
